Project: Australian Botanic Gardens, Shepparton

Since its inauguration in 2011, the 22.5-hectare Australian Botanic Gardens has blossomed into a cherished regional gem in the heart of Goulburn Valley, Victoria.

Our client, Fleetwood Urban, was appointed lead contractor by the Greater Shepparton City Council, tasked with crafting a stunning 55-metre suspension bridge over the Broken River. Galserv provided hot-dip galvanising for numerous steel structures in this build, including:

• • Twin galvanised steel towers
  • Childproof galvanised balustrade panels
  • Structural support steel framework
  • 86 tonnes of material hot-dip galvanised

Across the bridge span, there were hundreds upon hundreds of components for Galserv to process, dip and check, all done to spec and schedule for our client. This feat, marked by its fair share of hurdles for the Fleetwood Urban team- from unstable embankments to a 6.0 magnitude earthquake – culminated in the bridge’s grand opening to the public in November 2021.

This project is a testament to dedication and teamwork, showcasing the seamless synergy between Galserv, Fleetwood Urban and the council. The Gardens now offer easier access and a direct link between homes and the Shepparton town centre. We’re proud to have played a pivotal role in creating this beautiful, functional community thoroughfare with lasting protection.
